Study on the therapeutic effect of Formoterol(Atock^(®)) in treatment of patients with airway obstruction

Abstract

|
|
The effects of Formoterol on airway obstructive diseases was investigated. 49 patients were enrolled in a study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Formoterol in airway obstructive diseases. The drug or placebo was administered orally in a daily dose of 80 ug for F. days in double blinded method.
The patients were divided in two groups (drug group and placebo group) : drug group was consisted of 32 patients (male: 19, female : 13), placebo group was consisted of 17 patients (male:5, female:12). The efficacy of drug was analyzed by symptoms score and pulmonary functions. The adverse reactions were estimated by hematologic, biochemical findings and clinical symptoms.
The results are as follows
1. There were significant improvements in dyspnea, wheezing, coughing, sputum, . d dry rale after Formoterol treatment (p<0.01)
2. There were significant improvements in FEV1, FVC, FEV1 / FVC ratio and MEF after Formoterol treatment (p<0.01).
3. There were significant difference in dyspnea after treatment between placebo grows and drug group (p<0.05)
4. There were significant difference in FEV1, FEV1 / FVC ratio, MMEF after trea ent between placebo group and drug group(p<0.01).
5. There was no difference in laboratory findings between before and after drug treatment. This findings suggested that Formoterol(Atock®) is a very effective drug in the treatment of patients with airway obstruction.
